Pet Loss and Bereavement

As a beloved member of the household, the death of a pet can be very hard for your family, as well as for other pets in the home. There are various emotions associated with the grieving process, such as denial, anger and guilt. Any one of these feelings alone is difficult to deal with, but it can make this difficult time even harder without the support of loved ones and friends.

The Somers Point Veterinary Hospital staff is here for you. As pet owners ourselves, each member of our staff has had to face the loss of a beloved pet and we understand what you are going through.

In 2009, after the devastating sudden loss of her beloved cat, Ben, our senior receptionist, Gerrie, decided she wanted to help others who are experiencing what she had gone through. So in May 2010, Gerrie attended a pet loss counselor training seminar through the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement to become a certified pet loss and bereavement counselor.  Gerrie is available to all of our clients who may be anticipating the loss of a pet or who have recently lost a pet.  It is her dream to someday start a local pet loss support group.

At Somers Point Veterinary Hospital your pet's after care is as important to us as their intial well visits, and is handled with utmost respect. If you have questions regarding quality of life issues, coping with loss or the grieving process, or just need a sympatehtic ear, please call. You don't have to go through this difficult time alone!
